We’re deep into the dog days of summer, with the relentless heat making it tough to enjoy the outdoors as temperatures soar to nearly 100 degrees or more. The silver lining to these sweltering days is the comfort of Southern California evenings. As the sun sets, the temperatures become more bearable, providing the perfect opportunity to head outside with friends and enjoy the cooler air. Recently, I’ve been taking advantage of these pleasant SoCal nights by indulging in some fantastic live music around the area. Thankfully, there are plenty of options to relax with great tunes and friends under the stars.
It wouldn’t be a newsletter contribution from me if I didn’t include something from Descanso Gardens. I think I mention them every time I write and it’s for good reason. It’s nearby, beautiful, and they have such a wide array of programming for just about anyone. Their final “Summer Music and Dance” installment is coming up on August 8 with a Brazilian-themed evening. Concert is included with regular Descanso Gardens admission.
If you’re near Altadena, Farnsworth Park has a regular Saturday concert series running through September 7. Performances start at 7pm in the amphitheater at the park. Bring a snack and your friends and you’ll be in good shape! Best part of it all is that every concert is FREE!! Full schedule can be found here.
The Pasadena Pops never disappoint. Under conductor Michael Feinstein, the Pasadena Pops are a world-renowned orchestra. This year they are doing concerts at the LA County Arboretum with a variety of themes. Tickets range from $15 – $168 so there are options for all budgets.
Memorial Park in La Canada is also featuring a FREE concert series with a variety of styles to suit every taste. Concerts start at 6pm. Bring a chair or blanket and cozy up with your friends. Bonus, if you want to bring a canopy, you can, you just need to be in the back of the park so you don’t obstruct anyone’s view.
