– HEALING THE EARTH BY BRINGING IT INDOORS: SUSTAINABLE INTERIOR DESIGN –
Los Angeles, a city known for its vibrant culture and innovative spirit, is leading the charge in sustainable interior design. As more Angelenos become aware of their environmental impact, the demand for eco-friendly living spaces has surged. Sustainable interior design offers numerous benefits, starting with a significant reduction in the depletion of natural resources and minimizing waste. By choosing eco-friendly materials and practices, homeowners can considerably lower their carbon footprint, contributing to a healthier planet. Additionally, sustainable design prioritizes the use of non-toxic, natural materials, enhancing indoor air quality and creating healthier living spaces for occupants.
Incorporating sustainable design into your home can be achieved through several practical steps. Choosing eco-friendly materials such as bamboo, reclaimed wood, recycled metal, and natural stone is a great starting point. These materials are not only sustainable but also add a unique aesthetic to your space, blending style with environmental responsibility.
Upcycling and recycling old furniture and decor items can give them a new life, reducing waste and adding a personalized touch to your home. Embracing natural light is another effective way to enhance sustainability in your home. Maximizing the use of natural light by keeping windows clean and unobstructed can reduce the need for artificial lighting during the day. Using sheer curtains or blinds allows light in while maintaining privacy, creating a bright and inviting atmosphere.
Olive Atelier, with its distinct design aesthetic, embodies these sustainable principles beautifully. Known for its blend of rustic charm and contemporary elegance, Olive Atelier specializes in using reclaimed and repurposed materials to create stunning, unique pieces. This approach not only adds character and history to each item but also aligns perfectly with the ethos of sustainability by reducing waste and promoting the use of existing resources.
– L34 GROUP’S NEXT GALLERY ART NIGHT! –
Saturday, July 13, 2024 : 6pm-9pmArtist Tai On
Tai On has had an immense interest in the visual arts since childhood. Tai began writing graffiti as a teen in the 1980’s, attracted to graffiti because of its bold colors, its underlying message of defiance, and as a form of self-expression. With age, Tai has learned to appreciate post-modern and contemporary art. These paintings reflect Tai’s graffiti background, with bold colors, raw energy, and the in-your-face ethos of a subculture that is widely viewed as vandalism.
– WHAT’S THE LOCAL BUZZ ABOUT BEES?-
Agent Contribution: Catherine Stephens, L34 Group Operations Manager
Bees may be found almost everywhere in our environment, busy foraging for food –>They feed on nectar for energy and pollen to feed their young. There are thousands of bee species in North America, and about 1500 of them are found in California, as we quickly learned in the expansive backyard at one of our upcoming listings in Highland Park – The homeowners brought the bees to to our attention, and before any landscaping could be completed to prepare the property for sale, we brought in Bee Life Bee Removals. Take a look at jaw-dropping pics… you could hear the bees but not see them, and then upon further (and professional!) investigation – look what was uncovered!!
The best known bee is the European honey bee – Humans discovered ways to manage honey bees in order to use their products and pollination capability. Honey, wax, and pollen products have become important commodities bought, sold, and enjoyed, but the honey bee is not native to North America – It was brought to California in the 1800’s. We humans have been drawn to this insect because of its ability to adapt to domestication, their complexity, pollination capability and the wonderfully useful products they make. (One of our favorite local spots to buy the sweet nectar known as honey is La Tropicana at 5200 Monte Vista Street!) The complexity of this organism and the products it makes still draw us to love and admire this remarkable creature.
Alas in 2006, a mysterious dying-off of honey bees called Colony Collapse Disorder (CCD), caused heightened awareness of pollinator health nationwide. The cause of CCD is still unknown but may be a combination of stresses due to pathogens, parasites, pesticides, bee management practices, environmental conditions or immune-suppression caused by any of the factors above. This decline in honey bees resulted in a national endeavor in the development of the “National Strategy To Promote Pollinator Health” almost 10 years ago. Despite its sting, public awareness of pollinator decline has generated an interest in bees and an increase in urban beekeeping. There’s even a Los Angeles County Beekeepers Association!
And for those of us who would rather simply keep the bees at bay… Here are some tips for “Bee Proofing” your property : European, and Africanized, Honey Bees both like to establish colonies in hollow walls. “Bee Proofing” prevents bees from entering a wall void, attic or sub-area by sealing, caulking, patching or screening any opening (larger than 1/8th of an inch). Locate places around your home that bees might want to use as nesting sites and correct them before the bees find them, such as: • Air vents • Pipe holes • Roof junctions • Gaps under eaves • Cable wiring holes • Missing light fixtures • Chimney roof junctions • Openings in exterior walls • Electric meter compartments • Gaps between roofing and fascia boards • Debris / trash such as empty containers-boxes, buckets, pots, lumber piles, even old furniture.
Any major repairs to your home may require obtaining permits and coordinating with building inspectors. If you have any questions, reach out to L34 Group, and we can point you in the right direction. Most of the necessary tools and materials are available at any local hardware store. And if there are already bees buzzing / a hive in place, ask L34 Group for our recommendation of a wonderful local vendor who can safely and affordably re-home our bee friends!
– LOVE WORDS –
We love our clients, and they love us…
❝We had the absolute pleasure of working with L34’s Rachael Reiser during our recent home purchase, and we couldn’t be happier with the experience. From the beginning, Rachael was incredibly knowledgeable and provided us with valuable insights about the properties we were considering North East LA (NELA). She was honest about the pros and cons of each house, and her expertise helped us make an informed decision. Rachael allowed us to move at our own pace, ultimately helping us find the house that was right for us. Rachael was great at being proactive, always finding out what was going on to help us gain leverage in the negotiation process. Her attention to detail and strategic approach made a significant difference. Even after the purchase, Rachael continued to check in with us to make sure everything was going well. She was always available to answer our questions and offer assistance. Her warm and friendly demeanor made us feel like we were working with a friend rather than just a real estate agent. Rachael’s personal touch was evident in everything she did. It was clear that she truly cared about us as clients and as people. We highly recommend Rachael Reiser to anyone looking to buy or sell a home. Her professionalism, expertise, and personal touch make her an outstanding choice. Thank you, Rachael, for making our home buying experience so wonderful!❞
