– INSPIRE PRODUCTIVITY IN YOUR HOME OFFICE –
Home offices have traditionally been considered formal working spaces, often mimicking corporate office environments. However, with changing times and evolving work cultures, the idea of home offices has seen a revolution. The new-age home office emphasizes personal style, comfort, and a connection with nature. This shift is more than just a design choice — it is a lifestyle shift, aimed at fostering an inspiring and productive work environment.
The Role of Natural Light
Natural light plays a pivotal role in creating a productive workspace. It enhances clarity, boosts brainpower, and can make you feel more awake and alert. If your office location doesn’t permit windows for natural light, modern technology offers a variety of lights and bulbs that can mimic natural light.
Greenery in Home Office: More than just Decor
Plants are a wonderful way of introducing a refreshing wave of greenery into your workspace. Apart from their aesthetic appeal, plants can purify the indoor air and create a healthier working environment. There are numerous options to incorporate plants in your home office, from potted plants to hanging vines and wall gardens.
Furniture and Decor: Combining Functionality and Aesthetics
While a comfortable chair and a spacious desk are non-negotiable, they must also align with the overall nature-inspired theme. Opt for furniture made of natural materials like wood or bamboo. An office desk with a live edge or a chair with a woven seat can add a touch of rustic charm to your workspace.
Wood: A Touch of Rustic Charm
Wooden furniture and decor can add warmth and character to your home office while keeping the nature-inspired theme intact. From a wooden desk to shelves and cabinets, each piece of wooden furniture contributes to the overall aesthetics. Moreover, wood is an eco-friendly choice, being durable, recyclable, and contributing to reducing CO2 emissions.
Art and Nature: A Perfect Blend
Whether it’s paintings depicting landscapes, photography capturing the beauty of nature, or sculptures made from natural materials, each piece of art can add a unique touch to your workspace. Moreover, visual elements of nature have been found to have a calming effect, boosting productivity and creativity.
The Power of Colors
The choice of colors for your home office can significantly influence the overall ambiance. Neutral tones like gray, beige, or off-white can create a calm and soothing environment. At the same time, shades of green or blue, inspired by nature, can add a refreshing touch to the workspace. The paint for the walls, ceiling, and furniture should be carefully selected, keeping in mind the overall theme and personal preferences.
Transforming your workspace is about creating an environment that encourages productivity, creativity, and a sense of well-being. Whether it’s the choice of colors, furniture, decor, or plants, each element should reflect your personal style while aligning with the overall theme. So, here’s to a greener, calmer, and more inspired workday!
– GOOD FENCES MAKE GOOD NEIGHBORS –
Agent Contribution: Rachael Reiser, L34 Group Partner Agent
We don’t always get to choose our neighbors, but it’s fair to say people prefer privacy when it comes to their property and personal space. There are a handful of options when it comes to creating that sense of security, while making the privacy barrier aesthetically pleasing.
In many situations, a property line is separated by a shared fence with the next-door neighbor. If the fence happens to be in disrepair, it’s worth having a conversation to see if both parties are willing to share the cost of a new fence.
Fence options:
Affordable and long-life expectancy: Black vinyl coated chain link fence:
With a little time and patience, this can be a great privacy barrier when a hedge or vine is grown against the fence. Common drought tolerant options in SoCal include Indian Laurel and Bougainvillea.
More expensive: Redwood fence. This type of wood is resistant to termites and is less prone to rot and has a longer life expectancy than other wood options.
Most expensive but will last a lifetime is a solid stucco wall. Stucco can look great painted or natural and makes a beautiful backdrop to a variety of plants and or vines.
Our old Spanish house isn’t particularly light inside, so we’ve opted to forgo blinds on most our windows. To create privacy with the few windows that face our neighbor’s house we’ve placed large potted plants outside and added privacy film to the glass. This is a cost-effective option and makes the view more attractive than looking at a fence.
Fortunately, the climate in SoCal allows for an extensive variety of hedges and privacy plants to thrive. A favorite resource for native plants and to meet with a specialist, I strongly recommend checking out Nick’s Nursery in Sun Valley.
