– INTERIOR RHYTHM: CREATING A VISUAL DANCE WITHIN YOUR HOME. –
Creating design cohesion throughout a space involves a careful orchestration of colors, shapes, and the personalities of objects. Achieving this harmony requires an understanding of how individual elements interact and contribute to the overall aesthetic of a room. The first step in this process is to establish a cohesive color palette. A well-chosen palette serves as the foundation for the entire design, ensuring that all elements within the space work together seamlessly. This palette should include a dominant color, which will be used most extensively, and several complementary or accent colors that will be used sparingly to create interest and balance. By limiting the number of colors and using them consistently throughout the space, you can create a sense of unity and flow.
The next step is to consider the shapes and forms within the space. Shapes can be soft and rounded, or sharp and angular, and each type brings a different energy to the room. Mixing these shapes thoughtfully can create a dynamic visual dance. For instance, pairing the rugged rectangular benches with the soft curve of the arch ways above creates a pleasing contrast that is both harmonious and intriguing. Similarly, using a mix of vertical and horizontal lines can guide the eye through the space and create a sense of movement. This interplay of shapes should be intentional, with each element chosen to complement and enhance the others.
Assigning personalities to objects is another effective way to create design cohesion. Objects within a space can be thought of as characters in a story, each with its own unique traits and qualities. For example, a vintage armchair might have a nostalgic, timeless personality, while a sleek, modern lamp could exude a sense of innovation and forward-thinking. When these objects are brought together, their personalities should either complement or contrast in a way that adds depth and interest to the space. A room where all objects share a similar personality might feel monotonous, while a room with too many contrasting personalities could feel chaotic. Striking the right balance is key.
Texture, lighting, and accessories are also crucial for design cohesion. Combining different textures, such as velvet, wood, and glass, adds dynamic layers and complements the overall mood. Lighting enhances colors and shapes, with layered lighting providing flexibility for different activities. Artwork and accessories serve as focal points and add personality; their colors, shapes, and textures should fit the design scheme. Bold art and carefully chosen accessories like cushions and rugs enhance the visual dance. Overall, Achieving design cohesion requires a thoughtful approach, balancing contrast and unity to create a harmonious and inviting space.

TONIGHT: Saturday July 13th, 2024 : 6pm-9pm
Artist Tai On
Tai On has had an immense interest in the visual arts since childhood. Tai began writing graffiti as a teen in the 1980’s, attracted to graffiti because of its bold colors, its underlying message of defiance, and as a form of self-expression. With age, Tai has learned to appreciate post-modern and contemporary art. These paintings reflect Tai’s graffiti background, with bold colors, raw energy, and the in-your-face ethos of a subculture that is widely viewed as vandalism.
– “TOMATO TOMATO” – TOMATO SEASON IS RIPE! –
Agent Contribution: Rachael Reiser, L34 Group Partner Agent
I’m an amateur gardener at best, but one thing I can count on in the warmer months, is my tomato plants exploding in fruit. Our family indulges in homemade tomato sauce, gazpacho, and a tried-and-true favorite- Bruschetta!
If you want to forgo the battle against insects and squirrels, and occasional heartbreak of neglected tomato plants, any local farmers market can provide equally delicious fare.
“Bruschetta originated in Italy during 15th century. However, the dish can be traced back to Ancient Rome, when olive growers would bring their olives to a local olive press and taste a sample of their freshly pressed oil using a slice of bread.” – Olive & Basket
There are many variations to this recipe, but for an extra level of indulgence, I like to add fresh burrata to my bruschetta. The best part about this recipe is it’s easy to make and can be adjusted to one’s taste preference.
Rachael’s Bruschetta Recipe:
Yield: 4-6 servings
Ingredients:
1-lb ripe tomatoes (Sliced)
Basil leaves (bundle rinsed, dried & chopped)
Garlic pressed (1-2 cloves or more depending on taste preference)
4oz. Burrata
1/4 Cup extra virgin olive oil + extra to drizzle on top
Salt & pepper to taste
Lemon zest
Aged balsamic vinegar
Baguette
Preparation:
1) Combine sliced tomatoes, olive oil, pressed garlic, chopped basil leaves and salt & pepper to taste, and gently mix. Allow to rest in a bowl on counter for approx. 30 min.
2) Remove burrata from brine and let rest in bowl while baguette is prepped.
3) Slice baguette and drizzle both sides with olive oil before toasting in the oven on a cookie sheet (bake at 350 degrees for 6 minutes, then flip over and bake additional 4 minutes) **If you have a grill, forgo the oven and grill on high heat to create grill marks on the crostini.
4) After crostini have cooled to room temperature, spoon heaping bruschetta mixture onto each slice and add a large dollop of burrata on top. Finish with lemon zest and a drizzle of aged balsamic. Bon Appétit!
