– Sculptural Furniture: The Trend Du Jour. Love It? Hate It? –
Sculptural furniture is taking over the pages of real estate listings. Designers and stagers alike love these modern, amorphous (often bubbly) interior pieces. It’s a controversial design trend, that some love, love love…while others could do without. Used sparingly, and thoughtfully, they can be a beautiful, quirky added addition to any room.
This trend is favored by homeowners and designers for its ability to bring personality and individuality into a space. Unlike mass-produced items, sculptural furniture often carries a story or inspiration, adding depth and character to any interior.
How to Incorporate Sculptural Furniture
Successfully incorporating sculptural furniture into your home requires thoughtful balance. Here are some tips:
Use Sparingly: These pieces are bold. The mistake we see often, is an entire staging or design is cluttered with sculptural furniture. Use one outstanding piece, and let that be a part of the bigger picture.
Focal Point: Let sculptural furniture be the centerpiece of the room, whether it’s a striking chair, an artistic table, or a statement light fixture.
Balance Simplicity: Pair bold sculptural pieces with simpler, neutral elements to prevent the space from feeling cluttered.
Consider Flow: Ensure that sculptural pieces don’t obstruct movement or overwhelm the space, maintaining harmony between all elements.
Play with Proportion: Experiment with different sizes and shapes to create contrast, such as pairing a large sculptural sofa with smaller, minimalist side tables
The Future of Sculptural Furniture
As the desire for unique, personalized interiors grows, sculptural furniture is set to remain a significant trend. Its ability to merge art with functionality ensures its place as a timeless addition to any home. By adding sculptural furniture to your decor, you introduce an element of art that transforms the ambiance, making your space truly one-of-a-kind.
– My Perfect Weekend in Northeast LA –
Agent Contribution: Francine Biton, L34 Group Partner Agent
I’ve lived in Northeast Los Angeles since high school, specifically around Highland Park and El Sereno since 2017. I have a lot of regular go-tos, and I’m one of those people who loves trying new places, but at the same time, I’ll always return to my tried-and-true spots.
Here is my perfect regular lazy Saturday in LA and what I would be doing with my family:
Saturday Mornings
I have the blessing and joy of kids as alarm clocks, typically getting me up around 6:30-7:00 am. The first thing on the list is getting everyone decent enough to leave the house and grab some coffee and breakfast. One spot we frequent is Kumquat Coffee in Highland Park. We love their specialty coffees, which are worth splurging on, and their delicious pastries.
Then we’re off to Tae Kwon Do in San Marino! My son has been taking Tae Kwon Do since earlier this year, and it has become a regular part of our Saturday morning routine.
Saturday Lunch
For lunch, if we don’t have any leftovers in the fridge, we love getting sandwiches at Cookbook. It’s quick, easy, and always leaves me satisfied. My go-to is their turkey sandwich.
After our post-lunch siesta, we love taking a walk around our neighborhood to get some fresh air. Then we’re back at home, hanging out with the kiddos and finishing up some house chores.
Saturday Dinner
Dinner is always a scramble when you have two little ones and you’re just trying to survive. Our go-to meal is pizza! If we’re staying in, which we typically do, we’re ordering from Tomato Pie in South Pasadena. We’ve been fans of Tomato Pie since I lived in Atwater Village, where we would frequent the one in Silver Lake. Now that we’re a little further east, we often go to the South Pasadena location. We always order the classic pepperoni, theSMG, and occasionally the Butcher or Grandma.
What are your favorite go-to spots when the weekends aren’t packed with activities, and it ends up being a lazy, relaxing weekend? I love my tried-and-true spots but always enjoy hearing about what else I might be missing out on!
– SAVE THE DATE FOR SEPTEMBER 21ST GALLERY ART NIGHT –
The next L34 Gallery Art Night will be Saturday, September 21st, from 6pm-9pm, featuring Lena Rudnick.
Los Angeles-based visual and multimedia artist and filmmaker, Lena Rudnick received a B.A. in media and theater design from Pitzer College and an MFA in film directing from Columbia University. Her camera-less photo series was recently featured in the acclaimed literary and visual art journal Cobra Milk and her work is currently on view at The Lightbox Gallery in Astoria as part of the Analog Forever show. Whether through digital manipulation or physically hand-dying photo paper, Rudnick delves into experimental techniques to convey internal emotional states. Her films have been showcased at prestigious venues such as National Sawdust, Lincoln Center, the Miami International Film Festival, the New York International Latino Film Festival, and on PBS. Her photographs have been featured in the New York Times, Wall Street Journal and the LA Times. Notably, she was once commissioned to photograph Bono. Yes, that Bono.
Pinpointing specific moments of time and place, Lena Rudnick explores how memories blur and blend, colored by our emotions and shaped by the passage of time. Long exposures create striking striations of light and color through her lens as she delicately manipulates her camera by hand to create painterly dreamscapes that transcend nature, inviting viewers into her surreal emotional world. These tender abstract ethereal landscapes embody a profound collaboration between the artist and the natural world as she transforms moments into visual poetry. While the photos are constructed entirely in-camera, the artist closely shapes her work in the digital dark room, highlighting the interplay between painting and photography in her playfully impressionistic images.
