Recently, our family inherited some vintage dining room chairs. The overall shape and design were beautiful, but sadly, the caning was completely worn through. After speaking to my friend Michael, the owner of The Hunt Vintage in Echo Park, he directed me to an authentic caning craftswoman, Shu, at N.T. Young Cane & Fibre Repair in Pasadena.
Shu has operated her craft out of this unassuming location for over two decades, and she is truly a master of her trade. The location is a bit off the grid, and without a website so be sure to call ahead to confirm she is open.

It goes without saying that you should bike or take the Metro to your desired spot along the route.”
