I have lived on the East Side for too many years to count (or more years than I’d admit to since a lady never reveals her true age!) and I finally made it over to Heritage Square Museum. Quite embarrassingly, despite telling everyone about it and how cool it seemed, I’d never actually stopped in. But that all changed recently, and I can’t believe I hadn’t done this sooner. This place is like stepping straight into old-time Los Angeles. Gorgeous Victorian homes, wraparound porches, stained glass… it feels like you’ve walked right into a different era.

Heritage Square isn’t just about looking at history—it’s about living it. They’ve got all kinds of events, and I’m already plotting my return trip. Halloween is going to be especially fun with their spooky celebrations and a community trick-or-treat night (yes, trick-or-treating among historic houses—how perfect is that?).
Also, Terrifying True Stories is hosting “True Stories by Candlelight” to get you into the spooky season mood. From their description: “Immerse yourself in a spine-chilling world as you venture through an abandoned church and four haunted historic Victorian mansions where the boundaries between the living and the dead have long since crumbled.” You had me at spine-chilling. I’m in. Tickets can be found here.

And if you’re not into spooky stuff, just go see these amazing houses in the regular old daylight as they are open weekends and you can picnic on their grounds. Sounds like a perfect Sunday to me!
